“Babe?” Samantha asked walking into the kitchen. I was waiting on Jasmine to finish breakfast so that we could go. “Who is she?”

“Why?” I asked rolling my eyes. “I told you I was dating somebody.”

“I didn’t think it was serious.” She replied. “As many women as there have been in and out of your bed, I didn’t think this one was any different from the rest.”

“That’s not my problem nor is it any of your business.”

“Does she know about Jasmine?”

“Of course she does.” I said. “I wouldn’t keep her a secret and I wouldn’t date somebody who’s not okay with my child.”

“What’s her name?”

“Why Sam?” I asked. “Why do you need to know that?”

“I’d like to know who is occupying my husband’s time.”

“Ex-husband.”

“The divorce is not finalized yet.”

“The relationship ended that day you fucked that nigga in my house.” I said. “This house.”

“If you hate this house so much, then why do you want to hold on to it then?” she asked me.

“Because it’s my fucking house.”

“Daddy, don’t say bad words.” Jasmine said finishing her cereal.

“Sorry baby.” I said looking at my daughter.

“Has this woman been around my daughter?”

“Not yet.” I said. “But she will soon.”

“Micah, no.” she said. “Absolutely not. I am not going to have some strange woman around my child. You haven’t been dating her long enough for you to know if she’s a good person or not.”

“How do you know how long I’ve been dating her?”

“How long has it been, a few weeks?”

“Try months.” I said. “I don’t need to let you know my every move, when I make them.”

“Months?”

“And you know, it’s too bad if you don’t want Jas to meet her because it’s happening; today in fact.” I said shrugging my shoulders.

“Why wouldn’t you ask my permission.”

“Because I don’t need your permission to do anything with my child.” I said.

“Does she know you’re still married?” she asked. “Or should I find out who she is and tell her.”

“Stay out of my fucking business.” I said shaking my head. “You forfeited the right to know any of my business a long time ago. Anything that I tell you is a courtesy.” I turned to my daughter, “Bug, let’s go. We’re going to see Nana and Papa, then we’ll go to the aquarium, see some fish.”

“Yay daddy.” She said jumping up from her seat. “Let me go get my bag.” She ran from the room.

“How serious is it?” Sam asked when Jasmine was out of sight.

“Serious enough to introduce our daughter to her.” I said. “I’m in love with her.” I knew those words would hurt her.

“Am I going to get to meet her?”

“For what? So you can tell her that we’re still married and ruin what I have going on? I don’t think so.”

“A real woman would want to meet me before she meets my child.” She said. “Guess this says a lot about her.”

“Sam, she actually insisted that she meet you but I told her no.” I laughed. “Stop trying to make her out to be something she’s not.
